Message from the Executive Director
Dr. Shaker Lashuel is the Executive Director of the Global Studies Institute (GSI) in Qatar, bringing over two decades of experience in education and educational technology. Since 2022, he has led GSI in partnership with Arkansas State University-Qatar, focusing on developing academic programs, enhancing education quality, and aligning curricula with market demands.
With a strong vision for integrating modern technology into education, including artificial intelligence, Dr. Lashuel is committed to driving innovation and fostering meaningful change in the educational landscape.
Dr. Lashuel holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from Brooklyn College, a master’s degree in Secondary Science Education from Long Island University, and a Master’s in School Administration and Leadership from Moreland University. Additionally, he obtained a School Management and Leadership certification from Harvard University and earned a Doctorate in Educational Technology from Pace University.
Before joining GSI, Dr. Lashuel was the Manager of Scientific Support Programs at the MBL Centre for Knowledge and Education in Jeddah for eight years, overseeing the funding and sustainability of educational projects. Prior to that, he spent over 15 years in the New York school system, teaching and engaging in supporting 25 schools across various educational levels and gaining valuable expertise in improving academic and administrative performance.
Dr. Shaker has participated in numerous forums, workshops, and conferences on the applications of AI in education. He has authored and contributed to academic publications on educational improvement and teacher development, including “Improving Education: Practical Field Applications” and the translated work “Assessment Literacy for Educators in a Hurry.” He also contributed a chapter to a book discussing Houthi interventions in Yemeni education.
Dr. Lashuel is passionate about leveraging technology to enhance learning, supporting educational initiatives in developing communities, and empowering teachers with data-driven tools to improve teaching effectiveness. Under his leadership, GSI continues to drive educational transformation through innovation and strategic partnerships.
Shaker A. Lashuel is the current Executive Director of the Global Studies Institute. Before joining GSI, Dr. Lashuel worked in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as the scientific support program manager at AlMuallem Center for Knowledge and Education—overseeing funding for higher education initiatives and institutions both within the Saudi Kingdom and abroad. However, it was in New York City where Dr. Lashuel initially launched his education career in 1996, working for the NYC Department of Education for 15 years. It was during this time that he taught science and technology while holding training and administrative-based roles at the school level. In 2009, he joined a district-level team that supervised and supported teaching and learning across 25 PreK-12 schools.
